Rugrats Resale was started in Spring 2007 by Cathy Rouse, after relocating to State College for her husband's new job at PSU. Their previous state of South Caroline was where she first encountered seasonal consignment sales. As a stay-at-home mom with three sons, Cathy needed to find affordable clothing and gear. Since shopping was more limited in State College, it seemed like the perfect place to start a consignment sale. With the support of her husband (who built all of the original clothing racks!), Rugrats was launched. An additional baby daughter at the end of 2007 made shopping for girl's clothing possible.
Rugrats has steadily grown in the number of consignors and shoppers with each sale. More and more merchandise has meant changing locations several times. With all of that growth came a lot of work for someone with 4 kids under the age of 10 and now a part-time night job. That is when business partner, Bonnie Dershem, joined Rugrats in 2009.
Bonnie had consigned and volunteered a lot of her time during several sales. She also had experience with running family businesses. Even though she has a full-time job and a daughter, she (and her husband) spent a huge amount of time helping with the sale. So of course when she offered to take on a larger role, it was perfect timing. Bonnie has brought many new and fresh ideas to Rugrats to keep it growing.
